Carers Chat and Chill space

Hello!

My name is Anwyn - I was born with a moderate low-frequency hearing loss in both ears and wear hearing aids.  In my experience, deafness can be very lonely, and this is why I am working as a volunteer with Credu to reach out to people who may be experiencing isolation as a result of hearing loss.  My aim is to bring together people who have mild hearing loss with people all across the spectrum to those who have been profoundly Deaf all their lives. Hearing loss can range from a mild hearing impairment to being completely deaf in one ear to barely hearing anything at all; I want to welcome everyone from across this spectrum!

Deaf people “D” are people who are culturally Deaf. They use sign language as their main form of communication.  People who have developed hearing loss later in life and/or have a milder hearing loss tend to identify with “d” deaf or Hard of Hearing (HoH).  I am deaf (I have roughly 40- to 50% hearing loss) as I live my live predominantly around hearing people and I am learning sign language.

Together with my co-worker Jen and Carers UK, we have created a Carers Chill and Chat Space!

Today (30th September) will be an art session with Blue! More details coming soon...

Alongside this, we will have some questions available to answer about your experiences as a Carer; the aim of this is to see where our communities, healthcare and social services do well and what could be improved on. There's no pressure to answer anything you're uncomfortable with!

No previous experience will be needed - simply come along and join in 😊

If you are unable to attend the whole session you are welcome to dip in and out.

A BSL translator will be present at all times to help us communicate effectively.
